At the heart of the Sundarbans lies its iconic resident—the elusive Bengal tiger. Beyond the tigers, Sundarbans hosts 334 plant species belonging to 245 genera and 75 families, 165 algae and 13 orchid species. Including saltwater crocodiles, 7 types of Kingfishers, spotted deer, Fishing cats, Jungle Cat, Otter, wild boars, and an astonishing array of bird species.

Sundarbans National Park

The Sundarbans National Park, situated at the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna rivers in India and Bangladesh, stands as a testament to nature's unparalleled diversity and resilience. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for being the world's largest mangrove forest, covering an expansive area that is home to an extraordinary array of flora and fauna.

The Sundarbans is a unique ecosystem where land and water intertwine, creating a complex network of tidal waterways, mudflats, and small islands. The park is a critical habitat for the elusive Bengal tiger, hosting one of the largest populations of these magnificent creatures. Apart from the iconic tigers, the Sundarbans shelters an incredible diversity of wildlife, including saltwater crocodiles, spotted deer, wild boars, and various species of birds like kingfishers, herons, and the elusive masked finfoot.

What sets Sundarbans apart is not just its rich fauna but also its vital role in protecting coastal regions from storms and cyclones. The mangrove ecosystem acts as a natural barrier, mitigating the impact of extreme weather events and safeguarding the communities that inhabit the region.

Exploring the Sundarbans is a journey into the heart of biodiversity, an encounter with nature's intricate tapestry where lush greenery meets the ebb and flow of tidal waters, creating an environment unlike any other. As a sanctuary for diverse species and a crucial ecological stronghold, the Sundarbans National Park serves as a living testament to the marvels of the natural world and the need for its preservation.
